The reason for the high tantalum bead price is mainly the cost of the tantalum wire used for raw material. Due to a relative expensive ore materials, the Tantalum price of wire is per volume or magnitudes higher than prices of other metals. In 2017 the global metal price of Copper has been in the range USD 2-4 per lb, Nickel USD 4-6 compared to the significant higher USD 300-500 for Tantalum metal

Relative few suppliers of industry producers of tantalum beads are present in the market, which limits the availability.  The lead time for tantalum beads are typically in the range 8-14 weeks.

The suppliers of tantalum beads are quite closed about their prices and we have experience a relative large price gab in the offering. Most beads are made to order on a custom price quote. A few suppliers offer the beads to be purchase on their websites. Again the price differs significantly. The prices from 2017 are compared below.

X-medics offer 100 beads for EUR 65.00 (approximately USD 77.00) + shipping (EUR 129.00). A 3.1 certificate is included in the price. This specialized manufacturer is ISO 9001 and 13485 certified

Goodfellow also offers tantalum beads. The price for 100 beads is GBP 235.00 (approximately USD 310.00 or EUR 270.00). Shipping is free (included in the price), but it is unclear if theu supply certificates. Goodfellow is specialized in exotic materials in many forms but does not seems to hold any ISO certifications.

Baltec offers 100 beads for USD 350.00 (approximately EUR 300.00) + shipping (The shipping pirce is not stated on the website, but it is possible to use own UPS shipping account on the purchase). It is not clear if any certificates that are included in the price. This indistrial company is specilized in ball maunfacturing but does not seems to hold any ISO certifications.
